VSPT TREATMENT

Vision Rehabilitation

Occupational therapists help people maximize their ability to participate in desired life tasks and understand how vision can impact one’s safety and independence to do those life tasks. Impaired vision can cause difficulties in reading, balance, scanning one’s environment, reacting and moving safely, concentrating on a task, completing work or school, or navigating in the community.

Using specialized assessment and treatments to improve visual skills and processing, the occupational therapists at Vail-Summit Physical Therapy can design a treatment plan to support people with vision impairments to regain their independence and restore quality of life.

When Would I Need Vision Rehabilitation?

Visual skills can change after a neurologically caused accident or trauma or change with aging. Children can also have difficulties with visual skills that impact their ability to learn and performance in school.

In collaboration with an optometrist or ophthalmologist, VSPT’s therapists offer individualized treatment programs for people with visual impairments due to:

  • Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussion

  • Stroke

  • Other neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s

  • Deficits in eye movements and scanning

  • Double vision

  • Visual field loss

  • Visual-perceptual deficits and neglect

Benefits of Vision Rehabilitation

The top benefits are:

  1. Improving ability to complete daily activities

  2. Improving balance, safety and reduce falls

  3. Improving concentration and attention and overall cognitive abilities

  4. Reducing any headache and fatigue symptoms during visual tasks

These benefits are available to anyone dealing with vision challenges. Occupational therapy will expand your quality of life and help you regain your independence.

I have had a fantastic experience at VSPT. Even with the bumps it has been an incredible experience that has helped me tremendously. I've been able to get back to work and my lifestyle with the help I've received. I can move better than before and am still receiving impeccable service. Everyone there has been extremely wonderful and helpful. My therapists have gone above and beyond to help me achieve the normality I've been striving for the last 5 months — thank you so much!

How Vision Rehabilitation Works

During your first visit, our occupational therapist will evaluate your visual skills, listen to your outcome goals, and build you a customized program from there. Together with your therapist and often, an optometrist or ophthalmologist, you will work to identify your vision challenges and work with your eye care team to develop a plan for recovery. This could include:

  • Strengthening ocular-motor skills

  • Teaching you new ways to tackle daily tasks

  • Safety strategies

  • Modifying the environment

  • Utilizing adaptive equipment to help minimize visual limitations

At Vail-Summit Physical Therapy, we believe that care is collaborative. Our expert therapists’ partner with you to design your plan, fine-tune it to your goals, and guide you along the way.
