Providing Physical Therapy
Since 1984
Originally Avalanche Physical Therapy, Vail-Summit Physical Therapy was founded in 1984 by Diane Morelli and Roberta McCreey with the goal of working closely with the physicians at Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery to better serve the patient population in Summit County. Over the years, Avalanche Physical Therapy was bought by various national physical therapy groups until 2018, when VSON purchased the practice from an out-of-state organization to ensure local care stayed in local hands. Physical therapist Teri Day, who began working with Avalanche in 1992, was named the Director of Physical Therapy.
Teri, along with her team of dedicated physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists, have worked alongside VSON physicians to ensure mountain town locals and visitors received world-renowned care. In 2022, Avalanche Physical Therapy opened their first clinic in Eagle County. Shortly after, the practice rebranded to Vail-Summit Physical Therapy to highlight the partnership with VSON’s physicians and to emphasize the therapists commitment to providing a continuum of care for their patients.
Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery
Since its conception, Vail-Summit Physical Therapy has had close ties to Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery. In 1984, VSON founders and emeritus doctors Lonnie Chipmand and John Gottlieb worked closely with VSPT founders Diane Morelli and Roberta McCreey in order to build a therapy practice that would allow physicians to continue to support their patients during their recovery.
Eventually, VSPT (then Avalanche Physical Therapy) was bought out by a Texas Physical Therapy Group and proceeded to go through various mergers and buyouts with different national care groups. Missing the vital link between physician and therapist and wanting to keep local care in local hands, the team at VSON purchased VSPT in 2018. Since then, VSPT has grown its Summit County team and expanded, opening its first clinic in Eagle County, across the hall from VSON’s Edwards, CO, clinic location.
Together, the healthcare providers at VSON and VSPT continue to provide the highest quality of integrated care, helping patients reclaim their lives and get back to the activities they love.
